My name is Abigail Ogunyemi and I am currently a Global Challenges undergraduate student at the African Leadership University in Kigali, Rwanda. My mission is to develop a durable & affordable device to alleviate menstrual pain management in the most dignified and comfortable manner for over 300 million women in Africa. The use of painkillers and hot water bottles on the lower abdomen is an unsustainable coping mechanism associated with health risks. In order to increase the productivity and efficiency of women and schoolgirls who have typically miss 4-5 days of school or work due to menstrual pain, I am creating the Mellopad Waistbelt device which relies on the infusion of solar energy to produce heat therapy for women's lower abdomen. I believe the Mellopad project is uniquely positioned to have a major impact. I hope to bring this project into full operation in the near future. In this regard, I applied to the Watson Accelerator Spring 2021 program to gain access to the right skills and expertise needed in actualizing the Mellopad project. As a participant of this accelerator, I will gain knowledge in business operations and financial strategies to make my product effective and affordable for my target audience.I have been awarded $5000 scholarship funding to attend the Watson Accelerator Program. I currently need to raise $1000. The total tuition fee for the program is $6000. I believe this is going to be a life-changing opportunity.I humbly ask to be a beneficiary of your generosity in raising the $1000 I need to attend the Watson program through your donation to my fundraiser. Thanks for your support in Advance! Please find a link to my slides with a detailed explanation of the Mellopads project https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/18CeWnGMJooVRZ3e3FhhtqMsqboRCygnsKKthWahZhJw/edit?usp=sharing
