Hi Everyone:)

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my fundraiser, and learn what it is all about. Exhale Dance Tribe is a non-profit professional dance company that I have danced with since the VERY beginning; fifteen years ago! This new journey and project that we are currently all so blessed to be a part of has me SCREAMING with EXCITEMENT but I need the help of my ARTS community, family, and friends to make it all a reality. Please take a moment and read below as I have listed and explained all the details and past/present/future plans with this new adventure. Thank you all so much for your time, support, love and believing in me! I promise to represent our city/state/and COUNTRY proudly!!

VWŌHALI/HŌKIOI (The IDEA)

The Journey started in 2008 when Taiaroa Royal (Okareka) and Missy and Andrew Hubbard (Exhale) met while I was performing at an event benefiting cancer in Cincinnati, OH. I was performing with Exhale at a LiveStrong fundraiser and I am so grateful the stars were aligned that day for these three to meet.

The idea for the project was inspired by the significance of the eagle across both cultures. Exhale's choreographic tone is heavily influenced by the Native American Indian culture, where the eagle has huge significance (the Cherokee name for eagle is VWŌHALI.) New Zealand was once the home for the world's largest eagle, the HŌKIOI. Since the eagle has significance among the Native American Indian people, and the HOKIOI was once a majestic bird in skies of Aotearoa, NZ, an acknowledgement was made to create a dance theater work that celebrates, not only these two majestic birds, but to celebrate two strong indigenous cultures coming together under the modern art form of contemporary dance.

Within this work, there will be a strong choreographic and artistic collaboration across both cultures, to create a work that will combine the stories, myths, and beliefs of both peoples under the kappa intention, and the coming together of the American Eagle(VWŌHALI) and the HŌKIOI-the Haast Eagle. Both these majestic birds are considered to be the message carriers to the Almighty spirit, to the skies above, and are therefore considered very sacred.

The HŌKIOI, ( ext. 1400 ) is considered to be the older sibling of the VWOHALI. It is intended to show this VWŌHALI/HŌKIOI relationship within the creative process of the entire production, within the cast and crew.

NEW ZEALAND FESTIVAL

In additional to select performances, the final work will be performed at the acclaimed New Zealand Festival in Feb/March 2020.

The New Zealand Festival is Aotearoa's leading celebration of cutting-edge culture. For three weeks, once every two years, the Festival transforms Wellington into a thriving, enlivening festival city, a buzz with the best arts and artists from around the world.

I am personally seeking funding to support my travel expenses in JUNE 2019 and in Feb/March 2020. Every single donation, no matter what the amount gets me one mile closer :)

As a non-profit organization, we rely heavily on grants and personal donations from private donors, educational endowments and businesses in an effort to offset and cover operating expenses. Financially, times are rough and the Arts need more support now than ever! I greatly appreciate anything you can give, in order to help us continue to create and entertain, and for me to fulfill my DREAM as a professional dancer. Please remember, Your donation is tax deductible.

Love you all from the bottom of my heart.
