Little Jack Newman one of three sons of Jonathan and Maureen Newman. Jack is 4 years old. On August 16th, he was severely mauled by a dog, suffering devastating injuries on his face, head and neck.

UPDATE AUG 30th: From Mom Newman (Maureen): Jack and I had a restful weekend of movies, playing with toys, taking walks outside and practicing sitting/standing/walking. He is still kicking butt and doing great. His face is healing so well and he is tolerating his tube feedings well. He has also understood that his tube is where he gets his food for now. He helps his nurses and told them today when he was ready for his lunch feed. Since changing trachea tubes , he is able to vocalize (humming, vibrations, etc). He has now started trying to talk. He will be starting speech to start capping the trach so he can speak. He has been really happy these past couple of days. We are currently waiting on to hear from our treatment team to see what the next step is.

I ask for your prayers: Prayers for guidance and unity in the decisions that we would going where God is leading us to. Prayers for our other boys Theo, Elliott and Dad (my husband Jonathan), as they stay in Boise while I stay with Jack here in Seattle, that they will be comforted and loved. 14 days since the trauma.

UPDATE AUG 21st 10pm MDT: From Maureen Newman, Little Jacks mom: Jack is improving today. Jack breathed on his own for 6 hours and so doctors removed his ventilator! He did really well with the transition to the tracheal tube. Monday (Aug 22nd) Jack will go into surgery to implant his gastric tube (“G” tube / feeding tube) in his stomach. The doctors are also hoping to place a new trachea tube that same day or Tuesday the 23rd. He is responding and communicating via head shakes and nods. Dr. Zimmerman (his pediatric intensive care unit doc) told him “Jack, you’re my star patient.” Maureen was able to meet with the jaw reconstruction surgeon Dr. Susarla and is grateful to have him on Jack’s team. For various reasons, jaw reconstruction will have to wait until Jack is about 6 years old. Please keep praying for Little Jack, his Dad Jonathan and Little Jacks 2 brothers.

UPDATE AUG 18TH 5:3OPM MDT: Little Jack Newman is out of surgery, in recovery. Surgery successful, GI tube for feeding. Jack will be in the Seattle hospital for about 7-14 days to recover from this 1st surgery, then 2nd surgery in about 6-8 weeks to harvest his leg bone for a bone graft for his jaw reconstruction. A long road to recovery but he is alive!

THE DAY OF THE MAULING: The responding officers rushed him to the local trauma center, he was stabilized and then "Life Flighted" to a Seattle Washington trauma center for the first of several he undergoing life saving surgeries.

YOUR HELP NEEDED: The medical bills and transport fees will be, without our combined efforts, catastrophic to the Newman family. The Newman family live in Meridian but Jacks dad Jonathan works at Springhouse Restaurant in Hidden Springs; one of the most kindest, friendliest persons you could ever meet. The Newmans need your prayers and your financial support during this most difficult of times. Thank you in advance.
