Help Lauren Get to August

Help Lauren Get to August

From Lauren Barsh

I'm raising money to help pay bills and other household expenses while I am missing work due to endometriosis until I have surgery later this year.

Thanks to an awesome private donation, I am able to lower my goal a little bit. Still a long way to go! Thank you to my lovely friend Ashley and my amazing, wonderful, super best favorite aunt Emily for their contributions so far. And also to my great friends who have been sharing this for me!

More Info

From the Mayo Clinic website: Endometriosis is an often painful disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus — the endometrium — grows outside your uterus. Endometriosis most commonly involves your ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining your pelvis. Rarely, endometrial tissue may spread beyond pelvic organs.

I was diagnosed with endometriosis in May of 2019 after years of arguing with doctors about the pain I was experiencing. I am currently being treated with three different medications, seeing an amazing OBGYN and one of the top endometriosis specialists in the area. Unfortunately, these treatments are not managing my pain, and I am heading toward a major surgery that will include laser removal of all endometrial tissue that is visible on or around vital organs, an appendectomy, and a hysterectomy that will include removal of my uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes and left ovary in mid-to-late August.

Currently, I do not qualify for FMLA at my job, but I do have an ADA accommodation that allows me to stay home on the days that my pain is the worst - I don't get paid for those days, and I'm currently missing around 10-15 days of work a month. Due to the fact that I knew I would be seeking surgery this year (I waited 7 months for the appointment with the endo specialist who will be doing the surgery), I signed up for the best health insurance plan my job offered, and an HSA to cover expenses. With all of that, I'm bringing home around 500$ a month which is not even enough to cover my car payment that is 525$. With this fundraiser, I have calculated all of my monthly expenses for the next four months (excluding the bills that my lovely partner is already covering), such as gas, groceries, and personal needs (vitamins my HSA doesn't cover, personal loan payments, credit card bills, and even cat food). I have had friends helping me for a few months, but now that I have an end date in sight, I know that I will need more help to get there.

Thank you for any help you may be able to give, I know we are all living in a weird and unusual time.
