We are raising funds so 20 more disadvantaged children can enter our Aspire program in Peru. This will improve their academic chances and will keep them away from the streets thus lowering the drop out rates in school.
Our first Aspire class in Pachachutec, Peru has been a huge success. The 20 children enrolled in the program are not only performing better academically, but there has also been a notable improvement in their emotional well-being. The teacher is able to know each child, their family background, assess their issues and can offer a personalized learning experience. We offer a safe learning environment and a warm lunch every day. This alleviates the childcare burden on the parents or older siblings and keeps the children away from the streets.
This is what Maura, the teacher of our first Aspire class, says about the pupils:
"I have noticed several changes. For instance, some of the children were very shy at the beginning. With time in the Aspire program, the children started to express their feelings and were even able to express anger and frustration in a channeled manner. We also have a girl who initially did not speak and when she spoke it was often very soft, too quiet to be heard. After a while, she started talking in a more self-asserted way. She became more social with classmates and started actively participating in class activities."
