Sammy’s parents were in their apartment in Antakya, Turkey when the earthquake hit. They started to notice the walls shifting and they were able to escape by jumping down a collapsed stairway just before the entire building collapsed. They ran down the street to their daughter’s building and found her locked in the building because the electronic front door wasn’t working since there was no electricity. They were able to get the front door open just in time, and Sammy’s sister and her 4 children escaped seconds before their building collapsed as well. Additionally, other family members (his grandmother, Aunt, and cousins) are hospitalized or missing, so the need will grow.

There was no time to pack a bag, so they escaped with nothing more than the clothes on their backs—and the small Toyota that was parked outside and miraculously survived the earthquakes. Since 85% of Antakya is destroyed, they have had to flee the city and are trying to find a new place to move to.

Here’s where the Paychex family comes in. The Najjar family could really use your support to rent a hotel temporarily, and then a home later. Since they lost everything, they also need to replace their clothes, toiletries, phones, and furniture. Any amount you contribute will help, and the Paychex CARE program will provide a matching contribution for employee donations up to a $5,000 cap.

I know many of you would prefer to donate anonymously but sharing your name will ensure your contribution gets matched as an employee of Paychex. Anonymous contributions unfortunately cannot be matched under guidelines of the program.
