We are raising funds to help Natalia K, our friend from Ukraine, who is now a refugee with her 87-yr old mother. Her son had to stay in Ukraine to serve in the army and defend their country.

This fundraiser is for our friend Natalia K. For the last several years, Natalia has made these wonderful "kufi" hats precisely like those worn by Joe Zawinul, a famous jazz artist for David. Natalia lives in Zaporizka, which is where the largest nuclear plant in Europe is located and near the Ukrainian border with Russia. While Natalia is Russian speaking, she is 100% Ukrainian and proud of her heritage. She is a skilled artist and former engineer.
On February 26th David received a chilling message from Natalia that the Russians had attacked Ukraine. She and her 87-year-old mother have now traveled by train through Poland and on to Berlin, where they are staying in a “free” hotel. The German government is providing them with food and shelter, but we don't know how long that will last. Her son had to stay in Ukraine, as all males between 18 and 60 must serve in their army .
Like you, we feel a strong urge to "do something", especially something that will make a difference for someone we know. We have sent Natalia $500 and will send more. She needs money to get settled in Germany until the war in Ukraine ends, hopefully soon.
