Fires Igniting the Spirit (FITS) needs a refrigerated box truck to continue delivering much needed mutual aid supplies to indigenous communities regionally and across the country.
Its a beautiful day here in Klamath Falls!!! FITS is working in collaboration with The Strong Hold and On The Move Ministrys! 300 food boxes for the community of Klamath Falls, Chiloquin and Beatty!
Fires Igniting the Spirit (FITS) is a grassroots mutual aid effort based in Portland, Oregon, led by Warm Springs tribal member Jason Umtuch, aka Biggie. Biggie founded FITS in March of 2020 in response to the already decades long-standing water crisis in Warm Springs, which was suddenly compounded by Covid19 and the lack of social services for indigenous communities across the country.
Since it's foundation, FITS has been on the ground making weekly water, food, and healthcare supply runs to the Warm Springs Reservation, and has made countless trips to neighboring indigenous communities in Oregon and across the country.
FITS is a volunteer run and brand new organization that has been going full speed since it's inception. FITS is in urgent need of infrastructure support, specifically a box truck that has refrigeration capability. Biggie has been making all of these support trips happen through U-Haul truck rentals, which is extremely costly. Those funds should be going to supporting indigenous communities and not to truck rental corporations.
By getting FITS a truck of their own, they will be able to save so much time, money, and energy This is an extra urgent need because last month (May 2021), FITS's only hauling trailer was stolen. Please help with whatever you're able to contribute to make this happen for FITS.
