Donate to Help Refugees in Bosnia

From Deleted User

I am raising donations for the NGO I currently work with in Sarajevo, Bosnia. The refugee crisis here is getting intense, and we already feed hundreds every day. Please help us continue our work here.

Update #3

Thank you to everyone who donated to this campaign. As I am now back in California, I will direct future donations to the specific NGO pages. They are the same NGOs we have contributed an amazing 2800$ to. The people at Collective Aid, Aid Brigade, and BASIS are still in Sarajevo doing their amazing work. Please continue to watch their progress and the situation in Bosnia and the Balkans, and the plight of the refugees and migrants there. There is always more love to give! Thanks again. More Info

Collective Aid (formerly BelgrAID) is a non-profit organization that started in 2017 in response to the growing refugee crisis in the Balkans. Originally serving food out a van in Belgrade, Serbia, it now distributes food, clothing, blankets, and hygiene products across the camps in Serbia and daily meals in Sarajevo, Bosnia.

The route from Serbia to Northern Europe via Bosnia has become increasingly popular, with  thousands of migrants now in Bosnia, which is a number that is growing everyday. Unlike other countries, Bosnia has limited infrastructure and resources to assist this influx of refugees, which is why Collective Aid have chosen to set up a new kitchen in Sarajevo.

We distribute two meals daily out of a van to those who need it in the city, as well as give out warm clothing and blankets, which is becoming extremely crucial as the harsh Balkan winter approaches. Most people that arrive here are severely lacking in proper winter gear, and many that come to eat lunch or dinner with us aren't even wearing shoes.

We are funded by donations and our workforce is a core group of long term volunteers and some short term volunteers, who work tirelessly each day. You can help us help others and save lives this winter. Your donation will go directly to assisting those most needing help, and all funds will buy food and blankets. You are welcome to contact us regarding material donations, but due to customs regulations, the most quick and easy way to help, is through donations of money.

We feed hundreds of people each day, and our donations have been much lower than the real need. As more people arrive at our distribution site, we aren't able to give out as much food as we woud like. The winter weather is also stressing the already desperate situation and many people won't be sleeping in properly insulated areas, which is why we need to step up our purchasing of winter blankets.

That is why this holiday season, we are reaching out as far as possible for any type of assistance. Even a small donation helps, and we are grateful for every cent we receive. Each meal costs about 60 cents, so a donation of 12 dollars can feed 10 people for one day. Although the crisis in the Balkans receives less and less attention from the news media, the crisis is far from over, and more people need our help each day. Western governments are unfortunately becoming less receptive to the growing needs of refugees, and although we cannot do much to change public policy, we will continue to feed and clothe anyone arriving in Sarajevo as long as we are needed here.

UPDATE: Winter has arrived in Sarajevo, and we've already seen a little snow at our new kitchen, inside a new camp outside the city. We have increased the number of meals served each day to over 1500. The local charity here, Pomozi, does amazing work supplying us with much of our supplies in the kitchen, but our street team and winter gear distributions need more help than ever. Temperatures are already below freezing in Sarajevo, people continue to be trapped in the migrant limbo in the Balkans, and your donation is growing more important by the day. The donations made on this page will continue to be divided between the food we served twice a day on the streets and to more winter gear, such as warm blankets for those who do not have a proper and warm place to as well as better shoes for the winter.

Thank you so much for your time and for any help you can offer.

Update #2

Happy almost new year. We all hope next year brings more love and compassion for our fellow human beings. Thank you to all the donors and people who have shared this campaign, you've helped us make a big difference this year. With the funds we've put more winter boots on cold feet, preventing frostbite, put hot water bottles in beds, helped us purchase a vehicle to get volunteers to the camp, where they cook 3 meals a day.....you've helped the people stuck in this migrant limbo have a better chance this winter, as the border remains closed to the north. We hope the new year will bring more open-mindedness and a warmer response to this crisis, as you've all shown is possible. Thank you so much for supporting our work in Sarajevo. If you would like to hear first-hand accounts of this journey from the migrants and refugees themselves, check out our new podcast here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KKX90X-PKU&t=116s

Much love! Happy Holidays

Update #1

Wow! We've raised almost $1500! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and shared this page. Thousands of cold, tired and hungry people also thank you because these donations are already directly helping us continue our work here.

Winter has indeed arrived here, and we've already seen freezing temperatures for some time now. Everyone is tired and cold by now, but something like this really helps us to keep on moving. Support from the community like this not only helps this situation financially (putting more food in bellies, boots on feet, gloves on hands, blankets on bodies...) but also shows the volunteers that they have an even larger community behind them and this action.

Thank you!
