Okay, we know that a Unicorn may not be the safest way for Etana to travel, but a Unicorn is also a magical, illusive being that feels just out of reach. Etana needs a wheelchair-accessible van for her safest travel!

Help Etana get a Unicorn!
Etana is a 6-year-old little girl who was born missing part of her brain and with other parts malformed. She has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and is unable to move on her own or speak. She is a delightful child and has many challenges. She recently had a major spinal surgery to embed magical (MAGEC) rods into her back to correct her severe scoliosis and help her organs have room to grow. She then started the ketogenic diet to help decrease seizure activity (and medication!) and increase her awareness and engagement, and it's working! All of this has made her so much more aware, and a little more feisty! As she grows and becomes more difficult to transfer, it is becoming more and more necessary to have a safe, secure mode of transportation for her to access the world outside of home and school.
The truth is, wheelchair accessible vans often cost between $70,000-$80,000. The equipment needed to make the van accessible is not put into older, more affordable vans, because the equipment itself is costly and is not considered to be a sound investment in an older van. That creates difficulty for many families who need safe, wheelchair-accessible transportation for their children. I have tried to figure out a way to get this unicorn for her for the last couple of years, without success. Now I’m looking to other for help. I am starting a fundraiser to get Etana this Unicorn transportation. We are hoping to raise $50,000 over the next year, $5,000 at a time, getting us to a spot where we can finance the rest. We will be hosting a number of fundraisers along the way and will send out updates when we are hosting them if you would like to participate.
