There are many stories that come close to one's heart, but I think this one is unique.
Esther was a teenager when she was diagnosed with cancer. She won the battle, but at the price of her leg. Esther has been struggling for years both as a cancer survivor and an amputee.
Two years ago, despite all the challenges she was dealing with, Esther, started a new life with her young husband by her side. A year later, she was blessed with a baby girl, a child of her own. While all new mothers struggle with adjusting, the limitations of her complex medical history made it that much more difficult. What should have been a happy time was shadowed by her challenges. Esther was holding her baby and her prosthetic leg broke. Because of the poor prosthetic fitting she received through socialized medicine, Esther, (like most other amputees with ill fitting prosthesis) took a fall. While no stranger to falls, Esther dropped her baby when her legs gave out. Fortunately, the baby was ok and only suffered minor bruises, but Esther was not. Esther, couldn't forgive herself for not being able to protect her child, and vowed not to hold her child again while standing, not to put her in harm's way, until she will be properly fitted with a good prosthetic leg.
I can't fathom a mother not being able to hold my baby out of fear of dropping him. Imagine that. Not holding her baby for a year. This woman has suffered so much already, and has her whole life ahead of her.
We will never be able to give Esther back her childhood, nor can we give her back her leg, however, we can help her have a better future. We can give her a prosthetic leg that will be as close to what she lost, we can give her back her independence, and most importantly, a second chance at motherhood.
I can't do this without your support. Please help me support at Esther and make your donation!
