Hello! My name is Erica, and I am a Sweet Briar Student class of 2024! I was encouraged to make this gofundme due to some emergencies relating to funding, and I was encouraged by my peers to make this! I have had several hardships this year to include mental health issues and a large medical issue with my adrenal glands that required me to withdraw from several classes. I am trying to be able to go back to school and settle my bill; as I am an older student who is limited in their access to financial help or loans. Any help makes a difference!

I am trying to continue my education to go to medical school! I am a disabled Army Veteran and an older student(30 years old). I am also one of the first transgender female students to attend sweet briar! On-campus I give back in many ways. I have been in the student government as a representative for international and non-traditional student issues. I developed a program that helps pay for travel for international students to go home and worked on a project to create international student care packages for when they arrive. I play two varsity sports, Lacrosse and field hockey! I also sometimes help out in the athletic trainer's clinic as a student worker and assist the trainer on the field in case of injuries due to my background as a combat medic. I have been an outspoken representative for the school's lgbtq community and helped fight for transgender students to be referred to by their preferred name and pronoun in the school system while also helping them maintain housing in the dorms. I am a chemistry major and have done three separate full research projects in plant-microbe immunity, valence electrons in electron shells, and synthesizing proteins from fungus to process switchgrass as an alternate biofuel. I'm currently working with the philosophy department to publish a paper on transgender athletics ethics. I am one of 32 out transgender athletes in the NCAA and one of the first transgender females playing my sports in Division III.

Outside of school I work as a medical director for a boy scout summer camp and was referred to as a "highly skilled, passionate, and caring medical professional and has been one of the best camp medics I have seen" by the previous camp director. I also volunteer as a firefighter and emt for the local community. I am a panelist and advocate for trans rights and speak at several events in regards to their inclusion into the healthcare field.

If you would prefer, I can also consider this a temporary loan and pay back those who donated after I get stabilized. Please reach out for any further questions!
