On 17/9/2016, a 17 year old e-scooter rider crashed into Mdm Ang Liu Kiow, then 53. She suffered severe brain injuries and had to undergo two brain surgeries. The teen was sentenced in 2018 to two week’s detention order, 100 hours of community service and payment of $2,740.This accident has rendered Mdm Ang unable to speak, read or write. She has no recollection of the past and cannot express herself. In his sharing, her husband Mr Leong said, “It feels like I married a different person.”

Mr Leong has spent over $60,000 in fees for medicine, therapy bills and the costs of a domestic helper. Their expenses are still increasing.

Four years on, Mdm Ang is still unable to perform basic tasks (such as dressing, using the toilet and eating,) as her disabilities are permanent. With pro-bono assistance from lawyers at Drew and Napier, her family was awarded $445,000 to help with her medical expenses.

However, the e-scooter rider has not paid the judgment sum and has not offered any compensation in spite of the judgment sum.Mdm Ang’s family requires help for ongoing and future needs. Every cent counts. On behalf of Mdm Ang, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kind and generous contributions.
