Hello, I'm Derek I'm from the United States I'm 26 years old. I used to be fun outgoing an would take the shirt off my back for anyone in need.
I love photography, fishing and hiking. But, I haven't been able to do any of that since January 9th of 2019 due to an accident. I was hit in the head and neck an knocked unconscious for an extended amount of time. I haven't been able to work since then. Almost 2 years later, I'm still having complications
I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy from blunt force trauma. Post concussion syndrome, severe anxiety, moderate TBI.
Ever since the accident my health has deteriorated significantly
With my ongoing esophageal issue, I suffer severe fatigue, where I'll miss days upon days of time unable to shake it off.
I suffer days at a time unable to eat or drink without choking or feeling food stuck in my esophagus.
It hurts to swallow food, I sometimes pass out from eating small bits.
I hope that I can get the proper treatment needed.
I don't want to live life in pain or on a feeding tube.
I am fundraising to raise enough to get an Esophagectomy surgery.
The Funds will be used to go towards my procedure, imagining, including 4 - 8 weeks of rehabilitation to learn how to eat again. The hospital stay would be 3 - 4 weeks in the hospital. With 1 - 2 weeks recovering in the Intense Care Unit (ICU) an any medications associated with that after the surgery.
I can get a temporary dilation it's a temporary approach.
I am trying to avoid the need of having my esophagus fully transplanted, as it has a high mortality rate, an would be too costly at this current time. But, would be a permanent solution to this issue.
I understand 2020 has been hard on a lot of us, but I'm asking for some help to get through this.
If anyone would like to help that would be greatly appreciated. If you can't I fully and truly understand and won't be disappointed if you can't help.
But if you could please share my story, that would be greatly appreciated.
I'll keep everyone updated along the way.
