We are raising money for our son with moderate functioning autism to be able to go to a school that can provide the educational services he needs to succeed in life.
Charlie is the most special of boys. He is 4-years old, smart, funny, adventurous, and has moderate functioning Autism. Currently, Charlie attends a public school near our house. At this school, they just don't have the proper supervision or skill level to be able to treat Charlie the proper way. They have caused potty trauma to the point where we have gone leaps backwards in the potty training process that was going smoothly before he attended this school.
We are hoping to get him into The Arbor School of Central Florida. At this school, they are specifically geared towards special needs children. In every classroom there are only 4-5 children, they get one-on-one time with speech therapists, behavior therapists, and occupational therapists. Charlie can't escape from Arbor, as he has done from his current school, due to the high level of security to get into each classroom.
Without this school, sending Charlie to school every day gives me extreme anxiety because I never know if he is going to be treated properly. Home schooling is not an option as he can't function without social interaction either. The total cost for the school is $20,000 (I cried after seeing this). I did not think we would be able to afford it at all. Charlie was recently approved for the McKay Scholarship, which provides $11,000 towards his schooling. We are left to figure out how to pay for the remaining $9000, not including the $500 application fee. This all sounds ridiculous, however, when it comes to the safety of your child, you do everything you can to save them.
