More Info

The Iku of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia have lived for thousands of years in harmony with nature and 500 years of resistance to colonialism. Still they maintain their ancestral lifeways and maintain balance between their culture and the natural world.

Now they face the threats of Covid-19 and an unprecedented drought.  This has shocked their food system and ability to deal with the outside world.  But these resilient people are building alternatives to the crumbling system around them. They invite you to invest in their innovative indigenous economy.

Please join us to hear about how we can create this world anew

Please donate  to help meet immediate needs:

Keep the Sierra Safe - this project gets resources to the community members who are tasked with keeping foreigners out of the mountain.

Investment in the coffee and chocolate enterprise that allows the maintenance of ancestral culture and openings to grow land-based economies.

All funds go to Chipiri an indigenous run organization

For thousands of years, the Arhuaco  have been one of the 4 indigenous groups the  caretakers of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta Mountains. These four groups form the Tayrona nation and are the keepers of the  THE HEART OF THE WORLD wich is the Sierra Nevada .  This is the  world’s “most irreplaceable nature reserve.” At 19,000 feet, this ecologically singular site,  is home to 17% of earth’s bird biodiversity and an endangered population whose survival is at risk.Due to the pandemic COVID-19 and the Declaration of Emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Arhuaco are 50,000 and are moving into total isolation for the foreseeable future. The tribe is closing its borders and suspending all trade, which served as the primary source of funds from sales of arts, crafts, plants, cacao, etc. This year they have suffered drought and fires this contributes also to the hunger that is expected to arrive. During this time of isolation, the Arhuaco people will continue to care for the planetary preserve featuring eight separate climates, 35 rivers, 1,800 species of flowering plants and 635 species of birds, many of them found nowhere else. Please donate now to help protect the people who protect this precious place.Contribute to the Preservation of the Heart of the WorldThe closure is expected to be temporary,  12,000 Arhuacos are in very vulnerable position because of age, health , lack of food (afected by the drought or fires that have hit the mountain). Your help is needed. You can help us reach our goal of $10,000 to cover costs of food, supplies, and medical emergencies for the caretakers of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. This campaign has been created in the hopes that the global community that benefits from the Arhuaco’s protection and preservation of the “Heart of the World” will open their own hearts and donate. All financial contributions will be directed to The Chipiri Foundation,https://www.facebook.com/fundacionchipiri/ a non-profit led by Arhuaco members, and dedicated to the preservation of ancestral culture and customs, particularly environmental stewardship, spiritual ecology, and care of Mother Earth; advancing climate justice; and providing resources and support for the most vulnerable of the tribe: the elders, women, and children. If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this request with your friends, family, and community. Thanks for your love and support!

There inhabit 4 spiritual tribes considered as elder brothers of the confederation of the Tayronas Arhuaco nation They are 50 thousand Arhuaco members,This tribe is located north of the Andes mountains of Colombia, the mountain that measures 5,700 meters above sea level. Its means of supplying the economy mainly depends on handicrafts, agriculture such as cocoa, chocolate, coffee and sugar cane all this. it has collapsed for more than 30 days and this leads to cultural weakening and its economic system, thus predicting the arrival of hunger,
