Beirut was turned to ashes. Parents lost their children and children lost their parents. Homes, jobs, hospitals and much more, destroyed and turned to ashes. This country and its' people faced so much throughout the years: civil wars, economic crisis, a failing government, corruption, inflation, poverty, money held by the banks, the corona virus pandemic and last but not least the explosion that wiped out beirut. An explosion worth 1/5 the strength of the atomic bombing of hiroshima.

Students were some of the most affected, their education jeopardized by the failure of their awful government.

Regardless of all of this and despite the horrors they faced including losing family, friends and family homes, one of my closest friends, Mikel Helou, was able to get a scholarship, that covers a part of his tuition, from one of the universities in Cambridge: Anglia Roskin. Unfortunately, the other part of his tuition is not covered by the scholarship and after months of efforts, the bank is still refusing to give him or his family their own money just to cover his tuition, ticket to the UK and bare minimum expenses. He has an opportunity to build something and save what is left from his future. I'm hoping that with the help and generosity of people,  money will not be the only thing standing between him and his dreams. The money we get from this campaign will be directly sent by wire transfer to help him and his family that lost what matters most to them.
