Kabul's heavy metal community is trapped and on Taliban kill lists because its music is seen as satanic. The US is not acting so we're taking matters into our own hands—raising money for a last-ditch rescue mission.
BIG, EXCITING UPDATE: On October 3, 2021, a Kam Air charter flight with nearly 400 at-risk Afghans left Mazar-i-Sharif and landed in Doha. Rig Veda band members/brothers Metal Sam and Safi Sina Noorzai were on this flight, along with their parents and siblings.
This rescue mission is an unbelievable success story and would not have happened without the help of many people and organizations, from Senator Blumenthal to New York Times Journalist Kim Barker, Sayara International, and many many more.
Oh, and YOU. Your donation, though not enough to pay for a charter flight, helped cover essential food and lodging costs in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, where Sam and Safi and family, together with their fellow would-be-passengers, waited from September 1 - October 3.
Where are they now?
After nearly a month in Doha, where they were screened and received vaccinations, members of Afghan's only black metal band finally arrived in the US—and it was on Halloween, as fate would have it. They are now at a base in New Jersey, awaiting resettlement.
We will be raising money to help with resettlement costs -- our goal for the family of 9 is $30,000 -- and will be updating our campaign (now called Metal Rescue - www.metalrescue.org) to reflect this, so that Rig Veda can rock on in America! 🤘🤘
THANK YOU AGAIN!!!
