"How did you ever come up with this idea, Katie? You are really in your own lane with this."

My answer is a simple one. I had a dream. A dream that was so vivid it stayed in my mind and in my heart far after the alarm beckoned a new day. My mind's eye can still easily call forth the image of the sunlight breaking though an open window lighting a small room filled with cots and cribs. Some children were seated in their beds, some standing by holding onto crib rails, while others were standing in front of me. It was a room full of children and yet the silence was deafening. In the dream, I had no inclination of where I was or how I come to arrive in this place. But, I knew to sing. And that is exactly what I started to do.

I knelt down to eye level with the children before me, grabbed my guitar which had been strapped across my chest, and began to sing. I don't remember the song, but I do remember the impact it had on the children in that room.

When I awoke, still somewhat reeling, I ran. It took me miles and miles to put a plan in place. You see, if I go to far away countries and sing to little ones, the music leaves with me. That is not my intention.

Instead my intention is to teach the caregivers who love and meet the needs of the world's children with the strategies the need sustain early childhood music programs in missions throughout the world. You see, the connectedness that occurs when making music can help children develop the critical attachment they need for a lifetime of positive and loving interactions in the world. Not to mention, research has shown the myriad of ways the music makes long lasting, positive changes in areas of the brain that control motor skills, language, and social regulation.

But I can't do this alone. I need your help.

If you love a child, please consider a donation that would allow me to bring the gift of music that will impact them for a lifetime.

Update #2

Today is the first full day of the fundraiser and I have to admit I am feeling apprehensive. Asking people for money is never easy - and I find that for me (despite my many fundraising efforts) it never gets easier. But anyone who knows me, knows that making music with children has always been meant to be my life's work. And it truly lights me up as much as it lights them up!! And so, I will continue to knock on doors, send emails, and host fundraising events. Please choose to be a part of bringing music to a child's life.
