Raising Money to help Pay expenses that have arisen as a result of a 3 week stay at Enloe hospital. Diagnosed with Acute transverse Myelitis. Cause unknown. Losing approx 70% of motor function from the neck down.
Tom was admitted to Enloe hospital ER on Jan.25 experiencing numbness in his hands and feet, dizziness. After 9 days in critical care and every test available ruled out stroke, heart disease, diabetes, lupas, MS, lymes disease etc.. he was diagnosed with ACUTE TRANSVERSE MYELITIS. Cause still undetermined. 5 days of extreme steroid injections for anti inflammation caused secondary symptoms that exacerbated his condition but seems to have stopped it from worsening at this point. After 15 days at enloe he was released with approximately 30 percent usage of lower extremities. Since arriving home he can stand and walk using a walker, he’s able to use the restroom, using a stylus type on his laptop, eat and prepare simple meals. Improvements in dexterity and motor function are noticeable and CBD Therapy is helping tremendously with pain and inflammation based on his stated pain levels and flexibility thresholds when actively taking them.
Taking care of Tom are an incredible group of professionals, who are close friends, an RN to make sure his condition is monitored and progressing accordingly. Physical therapy through yoga, acupuncture, massage, dietary, counseling are all aspects being addressed to develop a strategy for healing.
That is what we know.
