About Me

Hello and welcome to my Global Village trip page! In May I will be traveling to Nepal to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, building homes and creating a better future for others in the process. Being a Democracy and Justice Studies major in college, I have learned about the different issues facing nations around the world and have wanted to use that knowledge to better the lives of others. Finally. after numerous books and hours of studying, I have the opportunity to leave the states for the first time. We will be building in Pokhara which is approximately a 5 hour drive away from Kathmandu, the nation's capitol. The country is known for its beautiful landscape with Mt. Everest and its valleys, but the issues are not as well-known. The country has nearly 200,000 people with 45% below the poverty line. Ninety percent of the population lives in rural areas, but many are being forced into urban areas for support causing the area to be crowded and short of living space. With these facts in mind (and a little push from a good friend :) ), it was easy for me to decide this was the trip to embark on and make a difference. If you are interested in learning more about the trip and what we will be doing, ask me or visit this website: http://habitat.org/gv/trip/gv13348. Thanks!

More Info

Approximately 90 percent of Nepal’s 22 million people live in the rural plains and mountain areas, primarily as subsistence farmers. Forty-five percent of Nepal’s population lives below the poverty line, with one child in every 10 dying before the age of 5.

Habitat for Humanity Nepal had served 7,650 families since its work began in 1997. HFH Nepal’s goal is to reach our 10,000th family by year’s end. We need your help to make it happen!

We invite you to join our Global Village team in partnering with these families in need to help build safe, affordable, decent homes. Thank you for becoming a part of the Global Village experience!

Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
