CHI Haiti is a community health initiative that works in solidarity to create healthy, empowered and self-directed communities in Haiti. I have signed up to join their medical team in June 2020 to volunteer with them.
Campaign is almost over, but there's still time to donate to CHI Haiti's efforts to provide medical care by providing community-based clinics driven by locals and volunteers
I have wanted to volunteer abroad to help developing nations since high school, but I never felt that I had the resources, confidence or connections to do so. I kept giving myself excuses over and over again why going abroad didn't make sense for me. In the meantime, I joined several community volunteer events that fueled the desire to continue to serve others in greater ways. In March 2019 I attended a Global Health and Innovation conference and met a wonderful woman who introduced me to CHI Haiti, and I was excited and inspired to join her and the CHI team. After meeting her and hearing about the work that CHI Haiti does, I felt driven to be part of their team and give myself to others in need. I hope that my story sparks that inner desire in someone else to volunteer, donate or help in any way to my fundraising effort or to any volunteer program! Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey!
Of the program cost, approximately 35% is spent to cover room and board for volunteers and interpreters. 40% is spent on medicines that we hand out at clinic, 10% is spent on salaries for interpreters and nurses, 10% is spent on miscellaneous costs such as diesel fuel and folks that help us out at the airport. 3% of your money is saved for things that come up during the trip, like a patient who needs urgent surgery, expensive medications, or inpatient treatment and 2% covers administrative costs.
