What is HAEC?

The HBCU Africa Education Coalition (HAEC) aims to eliminate the disparity of access to study abroad opportunities on the continent of Africa and its Diaspora.  Through the 100,000 Strong Africa Initiative, the Coalition will leverage a Pan African Study Abroad Model to facilitate access to improve study abroad opportunities among students of African descent.

HAEC is planning an aggressive fundraising campaign to get at least 100K students on board over the next 5 years. From the initial kickoff to send 100 students to Ghana and Tanzania this summer with 3GC, Inc. We are nearing our goal of raising $350,000 to fund the trip for 100 students representing over 16 Universities. HAEC puts forth a three-pronged, tactical execution to achieve the mission:

  • Engage 100,000 students of African descent in the Diaspora and on the African continent (positioning HBCUs and African-based Universities to lead the charge) to travel, immerse, study, and serve through a mutual exchange model, within a 5-year span beginning in Fall 2022. With a particular focus on removing the barriers of finances, awareness, and fear to engage in study abroad programs on the African continent.

  • Engage and collaborate with Study abroad offices at HBCUs, African universities, and other institutions and organizations that focus on creating a culture of expectation for every enrolled student to have a study abroad experience in Africa before they graduate from college as well as mutual exchange for African University students to have a study abroad  experience in the Diaspora at HBCUs and partnering institutions of the  Initiative.

  • Engage the global network of HBCUs, African Universities, and organizations that focus on Black Youth Empowerment crafting collaborative pipeline programs to instill the expectation among Black students to have study abroad experience in Africa and Diaspora (for African university students) before they graduate from university. These programs will also collaborate with HBCUs, African University student organizations, alumni ambassadors, and D9 organizations to uplift the initiative to shift the narrative from fear of international travel to empowering and transformative experiences in Africa and the Diaspora for the future global leaders.
