Gunner's Recovery

Gunner's Recovery

From Brandalyn Nevin

Our furbaby, Gunner, became very ill on 2/5/2021. After taking him to the emergency vet, he has anemia. After many expensive tests, and no answers, we are forced to do a bone marrow biopsy. Please help us help him!

Yesterday, Gunner was supposed to be getting his bone marrow biopsy. Instead, the vet found fluid in his abdomen. A lot of it. So, fearing anesthesia would be too much, we chose to skip the biopsy and do more tests on this mystery fluid. After more x-rays and an appointment with a cardiologist today, Gunner's heart valves are leaking and his heart isn't beating as strong as it should. THANKFULLY, this heart condition can be managed with medication which he is starting ASAP. His heart, however, is not the cause for his anemia. But, since they don't want to risk his heart giving out while he is under anesthesia, we are doing a different kind of marrow extraction where is he numbed but awake. This will take place next week.

We still need donations as his vet bills have increased due to this new development. Anything helps, and we appreciate what everyone has been able to do for us!!!

More Info

On 2/5/2021 our baby Gunner became very ill; obsessively eating dirt, became very lethargic, and his gums were very pale. After two vets told us to take him to the ER, we immediately did. There they did a lot of bloodwork only to find that he is anemic, with a red blood cell percentage of 20% (it should be at least in the 60%-70% range). They did multiple chest and abdominal x-rays, as well as an ultrasound, to make sure he wasn't losing any blood internally. Thankfully he wasn't, but that still left us with no answers. After a few more blood tests, they began to see that the problem lay within his bone marrow. That his marrow was no longer making red blood cells, and if it was, they were producing unmatured red blood cells. So, to find out exactly what is going on, he needs to have a bone marrow biopsy done. The procedure is not cheap, but more than that it is painful, especially for a furbaby as old as my Gunner is. So, not only do we want to give him the biopsy, we want to make his time recovering as comfortable as possible, however we can.

Please, donate whatever you can because every penny counts. Gunner is my heart and soul, he has helped me through so much more than he understands in his ten years of life, and I want to be able to repay him for that by fighting for his life.
