Global Brigades is an international non-profit that implements a holistic model to meet a community’s health goals. This chapter, located in Rexburg Idaho, is dedicated to providing healthcare to communities in need.
Global Medical Brigades is an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. We work in remote, rural, and under resourced communities in Honduras, Greece, Panama, Nicaragua and Ghana who would otherwise have limited to no access to health care.
The chapter of Global Medical Brigades at BYUI focuses on applying a holistic model in order to meet a community's healthcare needs. Funds donated will be used to help pay for and establish mobile clinics in Ghana. Using the resources bought with these funds, local teams of health professionals and community workers will be able to provide a continuous stream of healthcare that the community would otherwise not have access to.
With the outbreak of Covid-19, international travel has been very limited, especially for university students seeking to provide care and aid in countries that are in need. Because of this, university students are fundraising the money necessary to allow in-country specialists and healthcare workers to provide healthcare and pharmaceuticals to those in need. The students at Brigham Young University Idaho will then have the opportunity to work closely with these community health care workers via zoom and other software as clinics are set up and directed. Students will also have the amazing opportunity to virtually shadow healthcare workers in Ghana as patient consults and treatments are conducted.
