ASU Global Medical Brigades is a student-led organization dedicated to improving the overall health infrastructures of communities located in Honduras. It is our goal, at the end of each brigade, to install in each of our villages a permanent clinic for primary care. In addition, our organization is working to improve the water/sanitation in the villages. Global Brigades focuses on empowering communities instead of providing a temporary bandaid. An Empowered Community is one that has reached its goals in healthcare, WASH, and economic development. They now have the infrastructure, knowledge, leadership, and economic capacity to continue growing.
This year we will be attending a 9-day brigade from May 15th to May 23rd in the act of serving as volunteers to help those most in need. We have 40 students who are attending with each a donation goal of $2100. These students are interested in becoming future health care professionals with a passion for helping others.
In the past, we took a team that consisted of physicians, dentists, physician assistants and numerous students that helped provide thousand of patient consultations and provide access to basic needs such as clean water and sanitation stations.
In this upcoming semester of 2019, we will also be focusing on helping local communities in the greater Phoneix area. As a member of the Global Medical Brigade, we will be doing bi-monthly volunteer activities at organizations such as Habitat of Humanity, St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance and Andre House of Hospitality.
