Help us provide summer camp scholarships to LGBTQ+ youth in need.

Summer is here! You remember what summer was like, don’t you? School’s out, the sun is shining, and you’re counting down the days until SUMMER CAMP! Unfortunately, many of the youth we serve don’t have access to what many adults cite as a foundational part of their childhoods.

Since 2010, Stonewall Youth has organized a three to four night summer trip to a comfortable and accessible outdoor camp in the South Sound region. At camp youth, staff, board members, and volunteers bond, create memories, learn new skills, and re-imagine what Stonewall Youth is and can be. Youth participants and staff collaborate on workshops to teach participants about a diverse range of issues, skills, and perspectives. In the past material has ranged from “analyzing gender”, “radicalism”, “youth empowerment”, “racial justice”, “challenging our current state of education”, and “body image”.

Here’s what one Glitter Camp 2018 attendee was excited to share:

“We just got back from our annual Glitter Camp Retreat! This year our main themes included "Community Building", "Anti-Racism & Anti-Oppression Education", and "Community Visioning". One of the favorite activities we did was called "CABIN FEVER" each cabin chose a name, leader, mascot, handshake, and presented at the open mic. Our wonderful cabins were dubbed "Cabin Saucy Salamanders" (ages 12-14), "Cabin Cryptid Crew" (ages 15-18), "Cabin Dragon Court" (ages 19-21), and "Cabin Froot Snax" (staff cabin). We enjoyed cooking and cleaning up meals together, learning how to be more engaged activists, addressing needs in our community, petting farm animals, boating, screen printing our youth designed Glitter Camp tees, and performing in a spectacular open mic.”-A Glitter Camp 2018 attendeeThis year's camp is August 26th - August 29th, and we'd love to offer full scholarships to many interested youth who otherwise couldn't attend.Glitter Camp is accessible by design. Camp is free to youth, although this year we're asking those who have the ability to pay what they can. Since last year’s camp, the demographics Stonewall Youth serves have dramatically changed. We serve more youth that face housing instability than ever before. We are committed to keeping Glitter Camp free to all who wouldn't otherwise be able to access a summer camp experience.Glitter Camp is one of the most important things we do. It is a rare opportunity for LGBTQ+ youth to safely travel out of town, and spend multiple days and nights among peers. These experiences are essential in the positive development of our attendees. Our goal is $5,000. By meeting our goal, we will be able to bring 30 youth to camp for 3 nights, 4 days, provide 3 full meals each day (and snacks!), make camp T-shirts, provide materials for crafts and presentations, and help these youth form memories they will never forget. You can help us make it all happen!
