HERE ARE THE FACTS:

There are an estimated 27 million slaves worldwide. This industry brings in $32 billion a year, and those numbers are increasing daily. Reportedly, 161 countries are affected by human trafficking as either sources, transit centers or destinations. 80% of trafficked victims are women. More and more young girls and women are being sold, trafficked, or forced into prostitution. The average age of trafficking victims worldwide is 12 years old. Every 120 seconds a child is sold into slavery - 30 per hour - 720 a day - 1.2 million a year.

WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT:

Despite such startling statistics, the human trafficking industry continues to flourish. Participating in the Glen Burner 5K and fun run is an excellent way to both spread awareness of human trafficking and to combat this social injustice directly. All proceeds from the Glen Burner 5k will go to rescue and assist trafficked women around the world.

WHO WE PARTNER WITH:

The Glen Burner is currently partnering with two organizations to battle human trafficking. Freedom4/24 (www.freedom424.org) rescues trafficked women by purchasing them for a day and then taking them to a safe-house where the women are then offered the opportunity to escape. She Is Safe (www.sheissafe.org) works diligently to help women heal from their experience in the sex industry. After rehabilitation, the women are then given the chance to help rescue others.

PACKET PICK UP:

Packet pick-up is available at Spark Running (558 Ritchie Highway, Suite D Park Plaza, Severna Park, MD 21146) on October 18th or at registration on race day. If you have any questions, please contact John at john.smart@lighthousegb.com.
