Emerging From The Dark is a 501c3 nonprofit. We work with abuse survivors teaching them soft life skills like communication and self-awareness. We educate the community about abuse and human trafficking
My name is Deanna Carpenter. I am a childhood sexual abuse, domestic abuse, and human trafficking survivor. I established Emerging From The Dark as I found counseling and therapy only go so far. I lacked the self-awareness and communication skills to truly succeed in life. My abuse began at the age of 3, when my brother would sexually molest me. It continued through my entire childhood and into my teen years when my dad began sexually molestong me at the at of 12. I grew up believing my sole existence was for men to use me. I was well onto my 20s before I broke free and found therapy. I was in my late 40s when I realized I missed developing essential skills. Now, at the age of 51, I am finally speaking out, telling my story in the hopes I can help others.
