I set the goal back to its original number and I think I'm going to close things down for now. Thank you all. This means more to me than you know.
Hello! My name is Dede (they/them), I am a 25-year-old Black, queer, and trans writer based in Tkaronto. Born and raised on the traditional lands of the Squamish, Tsleil-waututh, and Xwméthkwyiem (otherwise known as Vancouver), I moved across the country 7 years ago for school. Since graduating from university in late 2019, my transition into “the workforce” (i.e. hell) has been less than ideal.
Recently, I took a 2-month medical leave from work, and am currently working part-time with the same employer. That being said, I have been trying my best to stay afloat over the years, especially during this pandemic. However, the fact of the matter is, I have very little financial security and stability at the moment.
This is primarily due to the massive debt I have accumulated over the last 7 years living in Toronto. This debt is from deeply inaccessible living costs, credit card bills, student loans, bank loans, and loans I have taken from friends. Adding fuel to the fire, my mental health over the last 15 months has been through the wringer. There have been multiple hospital visits and calls to doctors, psychiatrists, and social workers. Right now, however, in part with this fundraiser, I am working hard to build myself and a strong base for the next chapter of my life.
This fundraiser will help me pay off my debt, and will also act as some cushioning I can rely on until I regain full-time hours. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! Some ways you can tangibly support is by circulating my fundraiser widely and if you have access to monetary resources, redistribute your funds here!

Don't you worry your little heart, I haven't abandoned you all. I was moving, adjusting, and adapting my wings to grow into my new apartment.
As you can see, I increased the goal to $10,000. Honestly, I don't know if that number will ever be reached but I realized when I was moving that I don't have the capacity to promote and update this campaign as I did last week.
Regardless, we have achieved so much together. Raising $6,277 in less than one week! It's incredible.
Now, I seem to have forgotten to disclose what this fundraiser will go towards. In most layman's terms, this is a COVID-19 relief fund for me. Funds will go towards paying off credit card debt and bank loans, as well as building an emergency fund with several months of rent stockpiled.
Again, thank you. Again, share this with whomever you think it would be beneficial. And, I love you. Goodnight.
[In a Posh British Accent]: What a smashing start to this campaign!
All jokes aside, I am floored with your response. Currently we have raised over 75% of our goal. I believe we can push this even further, maybe have the fastest growing Fundly ever! I doubt that is a real award, but I haven’t even had the chance to update you all with me moving today too!
So much change, so little time.
Be sure to keep the momentum going by sharing and donating to this campaign. Below I have some giving tiers so people know what this money is going towards.
it's 4:08 pm EST and I haven't done any work today yet because I've been so nervous/excited about this fundraiser. Right now we have $3223 and I believe we can reach even further! I've raised the goal from $5000 to $6000 and I have the confidence based on today to exceed even this new goal! Thank you again, I'm amazed.
First of all, I want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone. In less than 24 hours, we have raised over $2,000! This is unbelievable. I am truly humbled by the generosity and care of my community. Honestly, I believe with the momentum we have, we could push to $2,500 by the end of today. So again, share this with everyone you can, reach into your networks, and support with whatever funds you have!
Can’t donate? Please share. Even a quick share on Facebook can help.
The average share raises $97.
