Help Us Buy and Deliver Beds for Families in Need

Help Us Buy and Deliver Beds for Families in Need

From Justin Silverman

We want to buy enough mattresses and boxsprings to fill a 53-foot trailer. The beds will then be delivered to Household Goods in Acton, Mass., who will distribute them to local individuals and families in need.

Mark's Northeastern Furniture Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with two main objectives:

  • Re-purpose and donate discarded furniture to New England individuals, families, charities and businesses.
  • Save thousands of pounds of trash from local landfills each year.

We're making a difference.

The Problem: Families Across New England Struggle to Afford Basic Household Furnishings While Tons of Usable Furniture Trashed

More than 9.8 million tons of furniture is thrown away in the United States each year. Furniture is the least recycled item in all households. Only one-tenth of one percent of all discarded furniture is recycled. Furniture is being added to landfills in “record numbers” and is a “big problem.” Meanwhile families across New England cannot afford to meet their basic household furniture needs. Nearly half of those without furniture are children.

Our Solution: Providing for Those in Need While Preventing Thousands of Pounds of Trash Each Year

More than  2,700 pieces of discarded furniture collected since 2011.  More than 300,000 pounds, or 150 tons, of furniture donated to charities and families in need. The Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce honored us with its 2016 Green Initiative Award for our efforts.

We've also partnered with the United Way of Tri-County, Household Goods and Brookline Community Mental Health Center — making sure that furniture is placed with those who need it most.

Now we're looking to give back in a new way: Provide mattresses and boxsprings to the many Boston and MetroWest families and individuals in need.

Eagle Leasing, based in Southborough, Mass., generously donated a trailer for this campaign. All we need to do now is fill that trailer with beds.

Please make a contribution today so we can purchase beds for those in need and make sure our neighbors are sleeping comfortably and with dignity.
