Girlz N Tune Inc. is seeking funding to assist us with renovating the Girlz N Tune Harmony House. We are purchasing a home and adjacent lot in Detroit, MI. through the Detroit Land Bank which allows us to create a more intimate space for our participants who most often need guidance, consistent reminders of how valuable they are and how the world needs them. This home will be a safe haven not only for our mentees, but for the parents of our teens. Our goal is to promote socio-economic empowerment and development throughout the city of Detroit and its surrounding areas. We also want to offer emergency respite housing for our teens and their parents who may be displaced for various reasons such as economic hardship, domestic violence, and unsafe living conditions. The organization will equip girls and women with the tools necessary to become psychologically, socially, and economically healthy citizens. Girlz N Tune will actively host women-centered activities and events designed to promote positive self-concept, self esteem, positive health, and overall well being. The Harmony House will also provide assistance in the form of products/services such as clothing, food, and a supportive environment, along with accepting referrals from community organizations, and social services. The adjacent lot will be used for urban gardening to create food for those in need by supporting and encouraging the establishment of gardens, contributing to the revitalization of abandoned or underurilized urban land. Our goal for urban gardening is to increase diversity, raise awareness for health/wellness, as well as inspire, and educate youth/adults to create an economically sustainable system to uplift the community. The benefits of the Girlz N Tune Harmony House are continuous teen mentoring, promoting adult-child interaction, literacy events, life development workshops, clothing closet, and urban gardening. These programs will allow the participants to learn unique skills, grow healthy food, and promote healthy communities.
