This January runners from around the world will join Ethiopian girl runners in Bekoji, Ethiopia for the first ever female organized 100 mile relay race. When I first heard about this race I knew I was in!
The 100 Mile Relay
On January 10th we will make history together and run from the Bale Mountains to Bekoji. The teams will feature one international runner (like me!) paired with four local girl runners. Our goal is to get to Bekoji as fast as we can!
Girls Gotta Run is the incredible organization behind the race. My bestie and biz partner, Katie Rock, first introduced me to their work back in 2013. We were starting our company Activyst and Girls Gotta Run was one of our first non-profit partners and the inspiration behind our Strong Girls Strong World t-shirt.
Girls Gotta Run funds a girls running team in Bekoji and provides scholarships for the girls' education. Participation in the program gives these girls a safe space to train, an opportunity to continue education, and an alternative to child marriage. The stakes are high for these girls and I'm in awe of their bravery and commitment. I have dreamed of one day meeting them.
Have you heard of Bekoji? It's a special place. Runners from this small village have won an astounding 16 Olympic medals. I mean, WOW! The most famous runners are male, but that's starting to change as girls are getting more opportunities to train - thanks to Girls Gotta Run.
How Your Donation Helps
Your contribution will not only help make this race happen - by supporting my participation and race logistics - but will also have a lasting impact by funding two girls in Girls Gotta Run's Bekoji program. This includes participation on the running team, life skills training, and an education scholarship. I am so grateful for contributions of any amount. Huge, heartfelt thanks to you for your support!
