Update #7

Did you know that each year thousands of children don’t get to open a present on Christmas morning simply because their family can’t afford it?

One in six children and young people in Australia are living in poverty, where even the bare necessities are hard to come by. In a family where there is no regular income, finding the money for school uniforms, proper shoes, textbooks or the next school excursion is often impossible, let alone Christmas presents.

In Australia today, too many children and young people will be experiencing Christmas in a feeling of fear, loss and maybe even regret. Let me take you to a moment in time…As the mother watches other families purchasing their Christmas gifts she begins to wonder if she made the right decision… her fear slowly rolls into regret of leaving as she thinks “maybe if I stayed a little longer we could have sorted it out? If we’d stayed at least the kids wouldn’t be missing Christmas because I chose to make us leave…” THIS is why we are going to work together. This is why you can spare that $5.00 or more.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that every year there are 41,000 homicide deaths of children under the age of 15. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare reported that on average every 9 days a woman is killed by her partner.
We never expect it will be us… or someone we love. We never think our sister would let herself or her kids be in that sort of situation. But it’s not like we walk in a say Please… please hit me. Please tell me how stupid and worthless I am. Please make my son believe he will never be a good enough son for you. Please destroy us! It often happens little by little until so much has been chipped away that we don’t even know if there is anything left to stand on it’s own. And the truth is – they don’t have to. You, me and everyone else can be there to hold her up and help her rebuild her sense of self and we do this through selflessness.
One is six children. That means in your child’s class at least 5 of those children are facing the possibility of missing out of Christmas… a Christmas YOU can possibly help GIFT THEM!
It takes a minute to jump on the FUNDLY page “gifting Christmas” and donate your cost of that take away coffee or burger from that fast food joint… help me help them give them the Christmas they deserve and let them know they are NOT alone.
Please share this message and thank you for your humanity.

My name is Kirby-Ann Konotopsky. As a woman and mother of 5 amazing children, who found the strength to leave an unhealthy relationship, I understand the struggle of trying to make every day right, especially around Christmas.

Together with my neighbors, we are working together to raise funds HERE, as well as organizing a joint-fundraising-garage sale and activity day to raise a truly significant sum of money that will be entirely donated to Not-For-Profit projects and organizations. We want to GIFT CHRISTMAS to families whom would otherwise not have Christmas. We are working to partner with local businesses and the local communities to make this happen.

We invite you to join us in becoming the candle that shines in the dark and light up Christmas for these children, their mums, their dads... our own hearts.

Whether it is $5.00 or $50.00 - EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS - TOGETHER WE CAN!

We can change Christmas for them and ourselves. Please join me - join us - Let's Give the Gift of Christmas in a way that REALLY counts!

Update #5

So today I did my FIRST EVER video for this sort of thing... it was nerve racking but empowering! I didn't waste any time in uploading it (so my fears and doubts had no time to creep in) and it has been very kindly received. You can view it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NMSgx12RF8&t=9s
I feel like today is the first of many exciting and progressive days... we have begun raising money - yay!
I spent a fair portion of the day personally reaching out to people regarding this campaign... I have heard (and read) lots of support and looking forward to seeing more words put into action. ;)

Remember - the cost of ONE cup of coffee could be a WEEKS worth of bread for a family...

Update #4

Tough day today... reached out to several companies and businesses and received a lot of support with phrases like "wonderful idea" "that's an honorable campaign" but nothing more... yet.
We have this saying in our house... always find a way to rephrase the negative into a positive... it can be as simple as adding on the word "yet". "I can't" is like a swear word... but can be made passable if you add on "yet".
I am feeling a little overwhelmed, and battling negativity from other regarding the reality of the support beyond just words.... I have had individuals privately contact me saying they are interested in donating but then try to get me to switch platforms that they want to set up and run "on my behalf" and we all know... scam. It is disheartening to know there are individuals out there trying to take advantage and rob the very people who are trying to give back. Self-love... self-worth: if you truly love yourself and deem yourself worthy you have no desire to harm or be dishonest. Please, love yourselves and in turn you will find the capacity to love, care and empower others, thus empowering yourself.

Update #3

Hello! Hello!
Today I spent most of the day teaching expecting couples about mindfulness, awareness, stomping out ANTs (automatic negative thoughts) and how to empower themselves by taking back their power through responsibility. I feel so much gratitude being invited into these families journeys.
I want to invite you all to consider how you can empower yourselves today.
This is what I do: Before I fall asleep, when I am laying in bed I tell myself how proud I am of myself for.... a, b, c. It can be simple things like making sure I made 3 of the 8 phone calls - 3 is certainly better than 0, how I made the choice NOT to buy the chocolate bar because buying it wouldn't have been showing myself love (bc I know how unhealthy it is for me) and taking the time to meditate earlier in the day. I remind myself that I AM a good person, with a good heart striving to do good things.
Every morning I spend time reading a self help book (even if it is one single page, I read every single morning), I practice EFT and positive affirmations then I write my life story out (my future as I WANT it to be in the present tense); it changes a little bit every day as I fine tune my goals, as I learn new information and as I gain ground toward this dream life.
Then I make a list of priorities and do my best to do what I can then save the rest for another day... because there really is opportunity every single day, patience with yourself is the key to feeling successful. If you truly tried your best and you still have 10 out of 15 items to do - focus on the fact that there is 5 less to do tomorrow and if you keep up that pace in the next two days there won't be anything of that list to do! AWESOME!
So what have *I* accomplished over yesterday and today (beside teach)?
I spoke with my neighbor and sorted out the date for the community garage sale & family fun day fundraiser - NOVEMBER 30th!!
We spoke with HIS mate who volunteers at a local radio station and he has offered to help with advertising and possibly getting some other organizations on board with spreading the word and maybe even sponsoring items to use in the raffles and for the garage sale. (fingers crossed)
I spoke with several Not For Profit organizations about their Christmas programs and goals; I learned that for them and the families they support Christmas is actually thee most difficult time of the year for them as people tend to focus more on their own friends and families and they have a decline in donations and support (I was truly surprised by this). Some of the organizations have even stopped trying to run programs at this time of year because they just can't afford it. (Such a shame!!) One lady cried on the phone at the thought of what myself and my neighbors are trying to achieve here and with the garage sale. (Warm my soul but broke my heart).
This evening I will be sending through the advertising stuff I've created along with all the information I have so far to the radio man for him to make up his own advertising items for the radio announcement and to share with the people he wants to reach out to.
I am also emailing the organizations that I spoke with that are able and interested in this project.
Here is some food for thought:
There are tons of small, everyday actions you can take to make yourself feel more empowered, from what you wear to how you carry yourself. We do know for a FACT that empowering others, whether it's through donating time or money, is another amazing way to empower yourself. In doing so, your body becomes receptive to the "activism cure," a term coined by researchers at the University of Texas, which explains how volunteering can help you get back to feeling not just like yourself — but your best self. Update #1

DAY 1 - Today I spent the majority of the day finalizing the creation of the first couple advertisements about the fundraising for Christmas and Not-For-Profit projects. I spent many hours with tears flowing from my eyes as I read more stories, more statistics and gathered more photos for the campaign.
We all do the best we can do with the knowledge we comprehend. Regardless of who you are, the mistakes you feel you have made - you don't deserve to feel unloved, unworthy or unwanted. You are important. You can change your past by changing your present. I am hoping to help people see and understand this.
I have shared the advertisements on Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin and email.
I am bursting with excitement, gratitude and anticipation.
