Getting Heroes Home is a veteran founded & operated registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission: Provide no-strings-attached travel for active-duty military members to travel home for life events. htt...
I grew up in a small town in southeastern Georgia. In 2006, at the age of 19, I joined the United States Navy seeking opportunities I otherwise would never have been afforded. After my training was complete, I got stationed aboard a submarine in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Because of the high cost of airfare from Hawaii to Georgia, the high cost of living in Hawaii, and low enlisted wages, I saw many junior enlisted who were unable to travel back home. They missed birthdays and holidays. They missed hospital trips and funerals. Their brothers, sisters, and cousins grew up. Half a world away, they had to watch as spectators as to their own families.
After seeing this narrative play out countless times, the founders of Getting Heroes Home decided to take action.
As veterans, we at know what it is like to be needed back home but not have the financial means to afford long-distance travel. That is why we specialize in providing travel expenses for active-duty Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen to get home from anywhere in the world.
Funerals, family illnesses, birthdays, graduations, holidays - these are all moments which demand our presence. And while there are inevitably times when service-members must sacrifice, we believe that when the opportunity arises, finances should not be what keeps them from being connected to their families.
Through negotiated flat-rate airfare through our partners Southwest and American Airlines, we are able to pay a fraction of the retail price for last-minute, emergency, and holiday round-trip travel - ALL AT NO COST TO THE SERVICE MEMBER!
We are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded and operated by veteran volunteers.
