More Info

Hello I'm Samantha, It’s  hard for me to ask for help and being this open but about 4 months ago I had a still born at 32 weeks and here's my story.

In January my husband Tyler and I found out I was pregnant with our 3rd child (this was my second baby) we found out when we were in Arizona picking up my stepson, Gray.We go every year to get him it's a 6-month 6-month arrangement, his mother has to come to Massachusetts to pick him up in July. Well we're very excited and happy considering we were trying for another baby for a couple months. However, at 19 weeks the doctors found a “small” amount of fluid around the brain, and sent me to a level 2 ultrasound. That where we found out she had more things wrong. She had a large amount of fluid in her heart, lungs and brain. I then was sent to a genetic counselor and blood work so see if she was a ‘high risk’ of a certain genetic disorder

It came back positive for high risk of “1p36 deletion syndrome”

I had the amino (long needle in the stomach to get the fluid around her) and confirmed she had 1p36

1p36 deletion syndrome is a rare genetic disorder, missing chromosome 1. It causes seizures, heart and brain issues. Typically causing severe intelligence disability. Most kids with 1p36 can’t talk, can’t walk and high chance of being on a feeding tube. We were told to look into our onions (adoption or abortion) because this child will be 'very difficult'. Well, we decided to keep the baby, because we couldn't just do that.

This is where we started to get hit hard with finances. We were told to go to Washington Dc because there was a genetic specialist that had experience with 1p36 and that's exactly what we did we took a spontaneous 12-hour drive to Washington D.C to see the doctor. Unfortunately, when we got to the appointment that's where we found out that her heart stopped beating. It is the worst pain I've ever been in and I’m still recovering. We called my doctor and she gave me an option I could have the baby in Washington or come home and give birth. I choose the second one so I could be with the people I love.

On July 26 I gave birth to my daughter Penelope Rose 2lb and 14oz 19 inches long. My husband took a month an half off work to grieve. The money will be going to getting out of debt and picking up Gray in January.

I hate asking for help like this but I've already maxed my card and got loans out just to pay my bills. Thank you for taking the time to read my story I really appreciate it.
