My world has been turned upside down when I woke up on the morning of February 24th to the news from my devastated friend "Russia attacked Ukraine!". I remember my heart falling to my toes with complete terror.
My family immigrated from Vinitsa, Ukraine over 20 years ago. My father has lived and worked in a small quiet town by Kyiv, called Vorzel. He and his wife, are artists/sculptors and in fact, they designed and build that beautiful city square the video above began, in Irpin.
My father who is now 75 years old went to enlist in the Ukrainian Army on the second day of the war. Unfortunately, they told him that he was too old.
Within two weeks, millions of people like my father have lost everything. Russian troops have turned off water, electricity, gas, and access to food and they tried to move toward the capital. Yet, they kept the hope and the spirit up by helping each other with what they had, sharing food, water, firewood, and words of encouragement.
On March 9th, my father and his wife along with dozens of private vehicles and a few buses were able to drive through the green corridor to Kyiv with one backpack and the clothes they had on their back.
They were able to take the train to Poland, then we got them to New York City. From the moment he arrived, sick, traumatized, devastated he wanted to make sure that we do something to help Ukrainian troops. Ukrainian people. Ukrainian lives.
He has spoken to the mayors of both Bucha and Irpin and received a list and a direct contact person who will receive the gear/aid they are asking for because they have direct knowledge of the situation on the fronts/on the ground.
We are working with the wonderful Irene Bubis who has established lines of supplies and delivery chains to allow what we will be able to send to our direct contacts to the Kyivskaya Oblast (areas in and around Kyiv such as Irpin, Bucha, Vorzel, and Gostomel.
Please understand, ALL the money will be used for aid, no one in our group is "taking a cut". WE just want to bring some relief and help.
PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND COWORKERS. ALL RECEIPTS AND UPDATES WILL BE PROVIDED. TOGETHER WE CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS.
