I am a 55-year-old Black queer man in need of a fresh start who has been housing insecure since 2013. I am raising money to purchase a late-model used car for work, including deliveries (Uber/East, Instacart, etc.).
I am a 55-year-old man who has been homeless since 2013. I am trying to raise money for a new life start. In 2009, I had a heart attack that required weeks of hospitalization, many tests and procedures, and large medical bills. Although my life was stable prior to my heart attack, afterward everything in my life went downhill in a slow-motion trainwreck. I could not work for a year due to health complications. I lost my home, my car, my small business. Depression set in as I drifted just trying to survive both my health and my humiliation on the streets of the city where I live while trying to maintain my dignity, mental health, and bearings. I found I did not qualify for a number of assistance programs, although two churches in my city were instrumental in giving me spiritual peace.
Time flew as days, then months, and before I knew it years blended into each other. Despite the hardships, I am one of those people you might pass on the street and never know my situation, but it has been a long, hard, ugly journey. But it has also been one of self-discovery and humility. Through it all, I have remained hopeful, prayerful, and helpful. By grace, my heart is strong and I am ready (long past ready) to live again.
My planned uses for the money is to use around $2500.00+ of the funds to purchase a dependable 2005-2008 late-model used car with as few costly repairs as necessary the better, to use for work (including for various services like Uber, Instacart, Grubhub, etc.). The photo I have used includes a 2008 Dodge; this is not necessarily the vehicle I will purchase but I want to give an idea of the kind of vehicles I am looking at. Money raised will include taxes, tag fees, and initial insurance fees. I am looking only for help to get started, not to be bailed out.
For the last couple of years, I have had only a few and very small opportunities come my way only to not have enough money or resources to take advantage of them. As I near my 56th birthday, I must humbly set aside my pride to ask for assistance to get my life back on track and in order. Your help is greatly needed and appreciated.
