On July 19, 2017, four fires began in Garfield and Petroleum Counties, MT due to extremely dry conditions and lightning strikes. On July 21, 2017, the fires burned together into one massive blaze now called the #LodgepoleComplex fire. The fire has grown to an overwhelming 270,000 acres and continues to erratically wage war with the men and women fighting to save their homes, land, livestock, and livelihoods. Local residents, along with firefighters from around the nation, have been feverishly battling the blaze day and night.
The Lodgepole fire has destroyed miles of fencing and burned up pasture land as far as you can see. There will be a significant cost to rebuild these cattle operations. As one lifelong rancher said, “My entire ranch has burned. Everything but our home. It would have been so much easier to rebuild a home, I can’t rebuild pastures, hay, everything we need to survive and raise our cattle.”
The residents of Garfield & Petroleum Counties need our help! Donations of goods, services, volunteers, have been rolling in, literally by the truckloads. But eventually those will stop and these proud, hardworking men and women will be left to sort out the livestock and try to resurrect their lives from the ashes. Please consider donating financially to help our neighbors, now and after the smoke has cleared!
The Garfield County Fire Foundation is the official financial donation account. Victims of the fire will receive 100% of the proceeds to help defray some of the costs needed to rebuild. A Board of Directors oversees the Foundation and all donations through this account are 100% tax-deductible!
