To know if the monitor for gaming is the best gaming monitors under 500, you will have to consider the type of panel, whether to go with the TN or IPS.  Until recently, TN happened to be the most common technology that was embraced by gamers and especially on models in the mid-range.

There is a low response time in TN monitors, and if you combine it with the LED lighting, then the brightness offered is excellent, consuming a little energy. On the downside, the TN panels are the color variations that it undergoes, and around the images inconsistency as a result of the viewing angle variation.

It is what worsens, especially on cheap models. It's color reproduction quality is quite low if you compare it with that of IPS. If the quality of the images is not an important issue and you are not looking for it in the best gaming monitors under 500,  and you want a monitor that has low response time, at an affordable price, then you can go for a TN choice.

The IPS format is another panel that you can consider when looking out for a good monitor that is within your budget of $500. It is a technology that is new in the market, very expensive, and has a high consumption, but its color reproduction is great if you compare it with TN panels. Its downside that its response time is higher as compared to TN monitors.

The S-IPS is an evolution of the IPS, which offers a better response time that matches that of a TN but with great images, and they are the type of monitors that are best in the market at the moment. With the application of the FreeSync and G-Sync technologies, it is possible for the IPS monitors to have a refresh rate of more than 144Hz.

FreeSync and G-Sync

FreeSync and G-Sync tend to be similar technologies, which ensures that the gameplay becomes more fluid. One of the objectives that they achieve is to ensure that the screen tearing is eliminated. Screen tearing is the horizontal line that appears on the screen while you have an exciting action that ends up cutting your monitor in two parts, and then the images get lost.

It is a technology that prevents such a problem from occurring, and also the lag in the input is eliminated. They tend to do it differently, but the results are the same. The G-sync techonology is developed by a company known as Nvidia while the FreeSync is developed by AMD.

The G-Sync utilizes a chip placed in the monitor while for the FreeSync, the video card is what manages it, regulating its refresh rate by use of Adaptive Sync that is found in the Display Port.

The FreeSync tends to be cheap and widespread, while the G-Sync is a bit expensive but works slightly better. They are technologies that are linked to AMD and Nvidia video cards.  So if you have an AMD card, you have to go for FreeSync, while for the G-Sync you must have an Nvidia video.
