Update #5

Hey All! It has been a while but I want to thank everyone who has donated to this fundraiser! We have sent out hundreds of book packages because of these donations and donations from benefit shows as well as from our own pockets. it has been such a wonderful experience to get so much community support. Right now we are low on funds so if you can make another donation or share our fundraiser, we would really appreciate it.

We also have an upcoming benefit show this Saturday, Sept 17th from 7:30 PM - 1 AM at the Civic Media Center. We would love to see you there if you can make it!

We are also taking paperback book, lots of packing tape, paper bags and black stamp ink refills (the bottle type) donations. These things can be dropped off at the show or at the Pride Center during their open hours.

Thank you again to everyone for keeping us going!

More Info

As many prison libraries are closing, fewer prisoners have access to reading materials. Books are not only a safe way to spend time in prison, they are also tools for self-improvement and social justice. BfP is a d.i.y. approach to prisoner support.

We are looking for donations for sending books. It cost us an average of $4/book package via USPS Media Mail. So far this year we have sent out hundreds of book packages to mostly Florida inmates. We operate out of the Pride Community Center of North Central Florida and meet every Monday (except the second of the month) from 6pm to 8:30pm to read letters, pack books and talk about prisoner support.

Thanks for taking a minute and finding out more about our organization. We are always looking for dedicated volunteers to help as well.

Update #3

We sent 72 book packages (more than 230 books!) out in our last trip to the post office! Thanks to everyone who came out to pack books and those who took them all to the post office. This last shipment cost us $$252.34 so we are very much in need of donations! Please take a minute to share on social media and encourage folks to give. We are planning a few events in the future and will keep you all up-to-date! <3

Update #2

We have moved into Video Rodeo's back space! After taking a lot of time to move and organize our books, we are now up and running out of this awesome space (there is A/C!) We had a well attended potluck on the 4th of July where we taught around 20 people how to send books to prisoners and talked a bit about the prison industrial complex. We have a huge pile of books we need to send out (probably like 40 packages which could cost as much as $160) so we need your help! Please spread the word and donate what you can..
