I'm a science teacher at a charter school. I'm raising funds for students with limited monetary support. They go above and beyond, desperately prepping for college and the SAT. They need help and deserve the money.
Our kids are here at this New England charter school because they couldn't survive in traditional education. They come to us to learn in a no test, project-based environment. When asked why they leave their schools, most of them claim it is due to bullying and they are profoundly relieved to find a home with us.
Almost anything I need for my classroom I provide for myself. I could work in a traditional school with more resources and a higher salary, but I prefer to work with these kids and help provide that safe environment for them. All of us (12 teachers) are bleeding hearts willing to anything for our students (>200 students).
Currently I'm working with a group of juniors and seniors, fiercely dedicated to being ready for college. Our students already are at a disadvantage when competing with kids from traditional schools to be accepted into local colleges. On my free time I run an SAT prep and college readiness program from them, doing everything I can to set them up for success. My kids will need money. For laptops and books and everything else needed to get a start in college. They already know they will have to get through it without a lot of resources and completely funded by loans, but still, they accept the odds against them, noses to the grindstone until graduation. Our community will raise some money for them, but ultimately they will need more. Please help me provide deserving, sweet, respectful, honorable, hardworking students the funds they need to help them get going in their professional lives.
