Sorry campaign team for the late update, but lots to update Smaller installments have been regularly reaching Denis and his basic necessities of food and utility bills have being taken care for the past month. We've arranged for some food delivery from Giant. We are also coordinating with some local volunteers from Upstate NY areas of Beacon and Newburgh to check if they could provide some on ground support. Please spread the campaign link if you'll can and re-share and repost as much as possible. Also, please do reach out to me if you know anyone in upstate areas of NY and we'll see if they can also contribute in any possible ways. The campaign has a long way to go, but I sincerely want to thank everyone for being a part of it.

More Info

During my stay in the United States as an Immigrant, I was fortunate enough to have met a lot of people from all across the country. My jobs & internships took me to cities and locations where I had first hand experiences of meeting locals with very diverse backgrounds. As the USA is popularly known as the land of Opportunities, I was rather curious to meet the less fortunate population, who struggle to make their ends meet in the country. I was curious to know more about the lives they lived and the struggles they faced, and that's why I had decided to spend a summer in Poughkeepsie, New York which is amongst one of the not so financially well parts.

One such encounter I had was with this gentleman named Denis Birchale in his mid 40’s, whom I used to meet regularly during my train travels from New York City to upstate New York. Our travel timings coincided twice a week and we had become travel companions. He knew a lot about upstate New York as he was an artist who had practiced in the areas of NewBurgh, Cold Spring and Beacon. During one of my visits to NYC, he invited me to his place in upper Manhattan and I had visited briefly to see his place. It was a very small apartment and could barely fit any of his belongings and his art work. Few weeks after this visit, he was also kind enough to offer me to stay at his place for a couple of days, as I was visiting NYC for a weekend and he knew I had nowhere else to stay. But since he had his own struggles in that apartment, I politely declined the offer, and stayed in an Airbnb instead.

He was one of the warmest persons I’d met in the USA and I had become very fond of him. Slowly as I got to know more about him, I figured out his struggles with finances, his personal issues and how it had been getting difficult for him to keep things running smoothly because of various obstacles he had faced. But in spite of all the odds, he stood strong and never ever let down his pride by asking for favors or help from anyone, until recently.

Last week, I got a text message from him saying that his life has been affected severely by various ongoing circumstances in the USA. He’s been not getting any work lately, had to spend a lot of money on healthcare and medical issues, his daughter's tuition was partly to be paid by him, his wife got a stroke, his own rental and other running expenses; the list was long. He’s almost at a point where he can’t even pay his rents and might end up becoming homeless soon. So he reached out to me recently and asked if I could offer him any financial help. Knowing the man he is, I felt the need to ask him what's happening in his life and he told me everything about it. He’s suffered huge financial losses, has to even starve once in a while and it has affected him to an extent where he is severely depressed. This has started affecting his mental health as well as getting suicidal thoughts very often. He’s in need of a huge financial assistance to survive.

I promised him that I will reach out and ask for donations from friends and family globally and put together whatever I can. So via this fundraiser, I am requesting my friends, family and loved ones to contribute whatever you’ll can in making things better for him. Knowing the challenging times we are living in, this is the least we could do. I'll be happy to answer any questions or provide any information which can assist in contributing towards this fundraising. Please be generous and donate whatever you can.

Update #2

Got a forwarded link from Denis asking the campaign followers and friends to sign the petition below. This petition asks Congress to support families with a $2,000 payment for adults and a $1,000 payment for kids immediately, and continuing regular checks for the duration of the crisis. Will be a great milestone for many campaign supporters if more people sign and pass this ahead. Here is the link:

Update #1

Spoke to Denis today, and he’s been having high blood pressure and high blood sugar issues persistently. His diet has become almost nothing and is utilising his money only for essential expenses like medical and health. Have transferred some money to him from my personal savings and hoping to gather the momentum here on to be able to help him soon.
