We are raising funds because we care about the kids in our community. We want the kids to be able to focus more on their education & music.
Greg, thank you for your support! Your donation would go such a long way in helping kids learn and love music more.
"Here we go again, another fund raiser", "here's someone asking me for some more money", I know some of you probably had those same thoughts. Believe me, I understand, I thought them too! But after learning more about the kids and their needs, my thoughts turned to "What can I do?".
I wish I took music lessons when I was a kid (way back in the days), but music lessons were not offered back then in the Philippines. I don't know anything about instruments or school bands until recently when my daughter, who happens to be in middle school band, told me about some of their instruments in class. She said that some were a bit old and some needed to be repaired.
I just put my daughter's comment in the back of mind and didn't really put much thought into it until my nephew, Andrew (one of the ones that introduced Kristen to drumming, a senior in high school, and the percussion leader with the Eastlake Titan Regiment) told me that they were raising funds. He said that they really needed help. They needed new drums, mallets, (I didn't know what that was), sticks, harnesses, and other instruments that needed to be upgraded or repaired.
I learned more after talking with some parents, teacher and band director. I learned that raising funds for music programs have gotten a bit challenging due to recent budget cuts and fund raising limitations. The kids and parents are trying to do what they can but with other needs like uniforms, competition entry fees, transportation fees (which doubled this year), and other music expenses, there's really not enough funds to cover anything else.
I am hoping that as a community, that we can come together to support these kids. Wouldn't it be nice to take this burden from the kids and their families and be able to truly be a community and help out, that way the kids can just focus on education and their music.
My prayer is that this can continue for many years to come. Can you imagine being able to help different schools each year? To be able to let the kids know that we are here for them and we want them to go to competitions, we want to hear them continue to play their music, and we want to see them succeed...wouldn't that be AWESOME!
So I hope your thoughts also changed to "I've got to help them". You can by doing two things:
1) Make a donation
2) Spread the word
If we can just share this with 1,300 people and ask them to donate $10.00, DONE! Let's do this!
Can’t donate? Please share. Even a quick share on Facebook can help.
The average share raises $97.
