Raising Funds for the 2015/16 school year.
The purpose of Friends of Malcom's event is to raise funds to hire a Resident Support Teacher for each grade level, Kindergarten through 5. For six years now, we’ve been able to hire credentialed part-time teachers who provide additional instruction time among the classrooms. Only Friends of Malcom can raise the funds to hire these teachers.
In this way, every child at Malcom Elementary benefits either by working directly with our Resident Support Teacher (RST) or by working with their regular homeroom teacher on core curriculum in a smaller learning group. Lowering our student/teacher ratios during these drastic times of state and district budget cuts has been tremendously beneficial, and is well-supported on campus by both faculty and parents.
As background, John S. Malcom Elementary School is a California Blue Ribbon school, in Laguna Niguel. We currently have 592 families whose children attend Malcom. As you are probably aware, times are very tough for public schools. Budgets are being slashed on the state and local level. The parents of Malcom scholars realize that we have something unique in our school and have worked hard to maintain our high quality of education and programming through private fundraising.
