Friends of Hondo Canyon is fundraising money to support clean rivers in Hondo Canyon. Our goal is to raise $100,000 to cover Environmental Lawyer Legal Fees which will ultimately protect our creeks.
We are in a critical time period. Commissioner's Creek is a 'loosing creek' meaning that the creek flow communicates with groundwater. Discharge of wastewater effluent into our creek is not going to be simply 'diluted' by flow of spring waters....it is likely going to end up into groundwater stores. TCEQ does not consider this possibility in the mathematical model they use to assess direct discharge applications. Please help us! The Texas Hill Country is known for Karst formations, where surface water rapidly connects to groundwater. Wastewater discharge into Commissioner's Creek means that the loosing segment of our creek will bring this water into groundwater stores. And some of us may end up drinking it. We live in a remote part of Texas and we hope all of you - Texans and others - will support us as we fight for preserving a crystal clear creek from wastewater contamination.
