Free Pantry Food Shed for Raymond

Free Pantry Food Shed for Raymond

From Stewart Foss

We are raising money to establish a free pantry food shed in Raymond. The free pantry food shed would provide barrier free access to food and hygiene items, including fresh, frozen and non-perishable food.

Update #3

We're thrilled to announce that we got a Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta community priorities grant to cover most of the material costs of our shed project! In the coming weeks we'll be working with (and sharing more information about) some of our other community partners to begin work on our free pantry food shed. More details to come!

More Info

The Free Pantries in Raymond have been distributing food and hygiene items to people in Raymond who need them since 2020. According to the last census, 12% of Raymondites live in a low-income situation. That number climbs to jumps to 17% when we look at how many of our Raymond kids are living in a low-income situation. We want everyone in our community to have access to food.

To date, we have been limited in what we can distribute because our pantries are outdoor and subject to weather changes. Most of the food we share is not super healthy. We envision a food shed that is insulated, heated and powered so that we can have a fridge and freezer. This will lettuce (lol) distribute both fresh and non-perishable food 24-hours a day year-round and allow patrons to have more healthy options.

This food shed will also provide a place for people in the community who have excess to share:

  • Garden produce (zucchini, lettuce, potatoes, more zucchini, etc.)
  • Fresh or frozen food
  • Seeds
  • Larger food items (bags of flour, rice, etc.)
  • And more

The food shed will also improve our storage situation and provide our volunteers with easier access to our donated food and hygiene items.

Update #3

We're happy to take your donations here, but if you would like to make a donation AND get a charitable tax receipt, you'll need to make the donation through the Town of Raymond and then let us know you have made it. For information on how to do that, please read our post about how to donate to the Free Pantries: https://www.facebook.com/freepantryraymond/posts/424561105924991
