Update #4

Taco's surgery went pretty well. it turns out i was mistaken about exactly what they were going to do. he did not remove all the tumors, just one for the biopsy. he called me yesterday with the results and it was not cancerous. of course a benign tumor is a vulnerabilty in the body, so going forward we'll have to watch the remaining tumors to make sure they don't grow or change, because that could be sign that they have become malignant.

she was very pathetic for a while after the surgery. in addition to the biopsy and getting spayed, they did some dental work while they had her under (cleaning and two teeth extracted.) i've never been spayed or gone under general anesthesia but i've had teeth pulled and it leaves me feeling pretty puny. it took me about 6 hours after we picked her up before i could convince her to eat, which meant it was that long before i could get a pain pill in her. after that she perked up considerably.

she has bounced back well now, although she hates the cone. it turns out that having a giant cone on your head is a challenge when you're so short that it gets caught on the ground if you look down, but she's learning how to get around with it on. she can even jump up onto the bed and couch while wearing it. she gets her stitches out on wednesday, so hopefully she won't have to wear it much longer. it will be nice not to have it jammed repeatly into my shins when she wants my attention.

Update #3

Well, it's surgery day. I have to drop her off in 6.5 hours and I should be asleep.

I've known for nearly a month she was going to have surgery, but I didn't really get scared until they called to give me her pre-surgery instructions (no food after 8pm the night before.)

It's weird, because it's not even the biopsy results that have me worried. The vet said he thought they were benign and the biopsy is just a precaution. Then again dad's biopsy was supposed to be just a precaution and 7 months later I was picking out his headstone, so maybe I should be more worried about that.I don't know.

What I'm worried about, and have been since I hung up the phone when they called with those instructions, is that my baby is going under general anesthesia. If I'm being honest that's a big part of the reason I didn't ever get around to getting her spayed before. What if something goes wrong and she doesn't wake up?

Anyway, I guess I just needed to vent that somewhere, and this seemed like as good a place as any. Otherwise I'm' as ready as I can be. I paid my credit card completely off so I can max it out at the vet's office. Thanks to you guys I can make a dent in paying it back down.
