We are supporting 15+ women in the neighborhood Magdalena Contreras here in Mexico City, whose lives are getting increasingly difficult. They either lost their jobs because of Covid-19, or their income from selling goods on the streets has diminished. Some of them have children to feed, others are elderly women living alone without a family. When I asked what they needed most, I received a short list of the most basic food items and cleaning materials. We sent a carload of goods to Mari and Angelica who are friends of us, and who together with their families distributed all items among the women in need.  It is a very small gesture - just one bag of basic goods, but it visibly resulted in a bit of relief - even if it is just for a couple of days. It gives a breather to the moms who worry about how to feed their kids and it provides food for a couple of days to some of the elderly women in Magdalena Contreras.  Mexico has not yet peaked in terms of Covid-19, the healthcare system is saturated and in the city the food security situation is getting critical for the most vulnerable. It will take the country a long time to get back on its feet.  In the meantime, women are struggling to feed their families and have the basic cleaning materials to disinfect.

For sure, things will get better again in Mexico. It is just a matter of bridging this very difficult time by helping each other out, where and how we can. Showing that we care, and that we can share.

We will continue supporting these women in Magdalena Contreras and if you join us, we can reach many more women and children.
