Fire Bombed Neighbor. Hate Crime? Reward for Arrest!

Fire Bombed Neighbor. Hate Crime? Reward for Arrest!

From Peter Pham

We are in shock over the fire bombing of the home of our Manhattan Beach neighbors, the Clintons. They fear this was a hate crime targeting them as an African American family. We must all respond.

We didn't catch these cowards but we rallied the community to make the Clinton family feel like they could stay. Here's a letter from them & where the money is going.

Dear Friends,

It’s hard to believe 18 months has passed since our home was fire bombed and hundreds of you stood together in support of us.

Good things have happened since that fateful day. We have fixed up our home and are alive and well in Manhattan Beach. Our children are thriving and have learned the meaning of perseverance. And we couldn’t have done it without you. As a community, you rallied for us, and we felt supported and loved. Thank you from the bottom to the top of our hearts. Not only did you give us comfort, you gave your money. Together you donated a whopping $35,000 and sent a strong message that YOU will not stand for nonsense.

Many months have passed and the perpetrator(s) are still at large. We’ve waited long enough. We need to put the money and the spirit with which you gave it to good use. We are donating ALL the proceeds to Manhattan Beach Education Foundation for a targeted campaign. After fees from the Fundly site, that leaves $33,000 to do good work. The funds will be used exclusively to support inclusion initiatives, such as teacher and student grants for creative and courageous curriculum. In order to qualify the curriculum must inspire productive and honest dialogues about race and other distinguishing characteristics that should be celebrated, not hated. Our goal is to eradicate racism and discrimination in our community. Tolerance is simply not enough. For more information, please check out the MBEF site. http://mbef.org/how/social-inclusion-grants/

Please join us in this effort. Keep the conversation going at home and in the community. Speak to your children about the power of words and importance of action.

We believe education is the key to creating change. We must continue to strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment for our children — students of color, students with disabilities, students from different socio-economic classes, students with different religious beliefs, as well as students with different sexual orientations.

Together we can make a difference.

Thank you again for your support of our family and the community.

With peace and gratitude,
The Clinton Family

More Info

This is obviously completely unacceptable and deeply disturbing. We must stand up and show our support for the family, and help find those responsible.

This page is raising funds for a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person/persons responsible. They won't feel safe until this person is arrested. We reject everything about this crime . even a $20 donation would mean something. A high # of donors is also a goal here to show support.  Per the Clinton's wishes, all of the money if unused for the reward will go to Manhattan Beach Education Fund to promote & celebrate Diversity. Police are investigating this crime, but they have not been able to tell the Clinton family whether it is, officially, a hate-crime investigation.

We know that the Clintons feel targeted on the basis of their ethnicity. They feel that they have no "enemies" or "beefs" with anyone that might motivate such an attack. They are asking directly for public support to help find the person or people behind this terrible crime.

Anyone with information regarding the investigation should call Fire Investigator Mike Murrey (310)345-0467.

Anonymous tips can also be called into Crime Stoppers (800) 222-TIPS

Please share and spread the news about this and not let these people get away with what happened! Everyone can help!

Update #6

Just wanted to update everyone that the police continue to look for the arsonist. Below is a note I got from Clinton's & press release MB Police dept put out this week.

"Hi Peter:
Here is a press release on the fire stating that the PD is still looking for leads. Can you post this on the fund and let folks know we still want to solve this crime and continue to thank them for their support. The police recommend we keep the reward fund in place through the end of the year and perhaps even longer. These investigations can take months and even years to solve and the fund might entice someone to come forward long after the fire’s occurrence. We started repair work on the house in June and hope to move back by September. The kids are swell and while it has been a tough year, we feel protected and loved."

Manhattan Beach Police Department
420 15th St, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266
(310)802-5140 Fax (310)802-5107

Press Release
Contact(s): Stephanie Martin, PIO (310) 802-5186
Date of Incident/Event: February 4, 2015
Subject/Topic: Residential Arson Investigation Continues

Location: 700 Block 11th St, Manhattan Beach CA 90266
On February 4, 2015 at approximately 2:15 a.m. Manhattan Beach Fire and Police Departments responded to the 700 block of 11th Street regarding a residential fire. Although family members were home, they were alerted by their dog and working smoke detectors and able to safely exit without
injury. The fire was extinguished and found to be confined to the front entrance, with significant damage to the residence. Although the cause of the fire was due to arson, a motive has yet to be determined and a suspect has not been identified.

The Manhattan Beach Fire Department and Manhattan Beach Police Department continue to seek the public’s assistance with providing any information regarding who is responsible. If anyone has any information regarding this investigation, they are encouraged to call Fire Investigator Mike Murrey (310)345-0467 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers (800)222-TIPS

Update #5

Here's a letter from the Clinton's..

To our Extended Family:

Thank you for your unimaginable support. From the hundreds who attended the candlelight vigil
to the hundreds who have inundated us with love, support and prayers through phone calls, emails,
texts, cards and letters -- We hear you loud and clear. For the flowers, gifts, virtual hugs and messages
deploring the act of violence -- We can find no words more sincere than WE LOVE YOU BACK!
Let this be an expression of our unending gratitude.

This event has given our family ample opportunity to practice what we preach. When God gives
you a challenge you think: Why Me? But our daughter taught us a new response: Try Me! And
you taught us one better: Try Us!! The person(s) who did this rocked us but we are not broken.
The blast at our front door has been followed by an even larger blast of love. Our children are
showing amazing resilience and we continue to stand proud thanks to YOU. Your support
proves love IS more powerful than hate. You have demonstrated when something like this
happens to one of us, it happens to us all.

We cannot possibly thank all the people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, but a
few names stand out:

Wanda and Wade Austin, Denise Burnett, June Emerson, Toni Guinyard, Charlene Hamilton, Nikki Horgan, Karen Jordan, Rossana
Libertucci, Pamela Marshall, Michael Matthews, Michelle Moeller, Kimberly Morasco, Peter Pham, Lauren
Powell, Sash Ramaswami, Sheryl Ray, Reginald Short, Namasha Walls, Jennifer Williams, Monica Young,
and Marla Zaslansky

Special thanks to local and federal authorities for their dedication to solving the crime. We also thank
city officials for supporting the vigil with a show of solidarity. http://Fundly.com has swelled to over $35,000
thanks to more than 300 love-filled individuals determined to find out who committed this cowardly act.
We thank each and every contributor for each and every dollar. Someone knows who did this. Please
come forward and claim your reward. Should the money go unclaimed, we would like to donate it to the
Manhattan Beach Education Foundation because education IS the cure for ignorance and hate.

Once again,
Thanks to all and God bless,

The Clinton Family

So please do share on Facebook, Twitter, email so we can reach our goal!! You might want to share this video from KTLA which will make you smile & know you have made a difference in convincing the Clinton's they won't be run out of a city! http://ktla.com/2015/02/06/feds-state-join-investigation-into-possible-hate-crime-fire-at-manhattan-beach-home/

We are told the FBI is now offering assistance in the investigation. We will continue to get the message out how large this reward is and is growing , which we are hoping compels someone to come forward.

Update #3

Hundreds of people showed up for the candlelight vigil supporting the Clintons last night in Manhattan Beach. Almost $24K raised now. Media outlets are reminding folks there is a reward & I'll be talking to investigators this weekend to make sure they keep talking about the Reward, & hope this leads to some solid leads.
Here are some pics from last night
